2020 Lenten Appeal for persecuted Iraqi Christians

The Humanitarian Crisis Here Is Far From Over

Dear Friend in Christ,

Will you help the persecuted Christians of Iraq with your Lenten gift today?

Many brothers and sisters are still hungry and sick. Many remain huddled in camps waiting to return home. Too often, those who do leave the camps find their homes and businesses in ruins after the war with ISIS.

And the COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly devastating for the Iraqi people — who have experienced so much pain in recent years and still live in fear. ISIS terrorists are still hiding out in Iraq.

A baby receives medical care at the St. George’s free clinic — thanks to you!

YES, Canon Jerjees! I know the humanitarian crisis in Iraq is far from over. Our brothers and sisters have endured tremendous suffering at the hands of ISIS and need immediate aid — especially as the COVID-19 pandemic continues across Iraq. To help persecuted Christians survive and rebuild, I’m sending my tax-deductible Lenten gift:

You will be redirected to our secure online donation processing partner, Network for Good, to complete your donation.
In short, the humanitarian crisis here is far from over.

That’s why I’m praying you’ll respond with your support for the Christians of Iraq during this holy season of Lent.

Please rush back your 2021 Lenten gift of $35, $50, $100, or even more if you’re able right away
.

At St. George’s Church in Baghdad, one of the most important programs your donation today will support is our free medical and dental clinic. This free medical clinic — that YOU make possible with your generosity — provides urgently-needed medical care, but it also supports our work toward reconciliation by serving people of all faiths.

The coronavirus health crisis has led to increased visits at the clinic, and greater challenges for our staff as resources continue to be stretched. But the Christian and Muslim staff at the clinic continue to work together to provide the best health care possible.

Yet, we’re only able to care for your sick brothers and sisters at our clinic with the help of your generous donations.

The staff at the clinic — Christians and both Sunni and Shia Muslims — includes six doctors of different specialties: two dentists, a pharmacist, and two lab technicians. Around 2,000 patients are treated at the clinic each month — at no cost to them. If a patient needs major surgery, our staff will try to find a way to pay for it.

It costs approximately $16,670 a month to keep our medical clinic operating ... which is why I’m praying for your generous support again today.

Your caring support will help us continue providing:
  • Food for the hungry — many of them homeless — who are struggling to survive in the face of persecution and are at risk of starvation;

  • Medical and dental care to children, families and the elderly who depend on us and would otherwise go without care;

  • Housing assistance, clothing, food and other aid to Christians who fled ISIS and now find themselves in Kurdistan and Jordan with nothing but their faith in Christ and the support we’re able to give them;

  • Schooling for displaced children in the Um al-Noor kindergarten, the all-girls school in Kurdistan, and the special needs center in Kirkuk.

  • Economic opportunities and help rebuilding communities — Christian communities are still devastated, and our brothers and sisters can’t get work because of the economic effects of ISIS’s devastation. We’re providing economic opportunity to Christians by revitalizing the local economy through rebuilding projects that help Christians remain in their homeland.

My friend, please rush your Lenten gift of $35, $50, $100, or more right away to help ease suffering and save the lives of our persecuted brothers and sisters who fled ISIS’s savagery.

Thank you, and may God bless you for your generosity.

Yours in Christ,

Canon Faiz Jerjees
